KIVULU PROJECT

Ghetto program

ABOUT THE KIVULU PROJECT

Every thursday the SAI team has a ghetto program in Kivulu. The Kivulu ghetto is commonly known as a den of thieves and prostitutes. In the Kivulu slum street children meet us. The boys and girls are supplied with vital goods, they receive our attention, we share our own life experiences, they receive counseling, small wounds and cuts are taken care of, they get the chance to wash their clothes, they can clean themselves there and we go further by giving them a haircut. A short haircut is precondition to attend school. For these tasks our Ugandan team has several additional helpers who support them with preparing food.

Around 200 children from the surrounding areas attend our ghetto program every week. A lot of the street children also take the opportunity to rest at a safe place and get some sleep. At the beginning of every program, we start by cleaning the area and give a ball to the older boys so they can enjoy their time playing with it. Small kids enjoy our company and play together. Children are visited by the SAI-team at home, they determine the degree of support these families need. We attempt to offer individual help or try to help them find suitable organizations. For example, we provided one of the kids from the ghetto ministry in Kivulu with a school place at Vision for Africa. We received some former street kids in transitional home already and provided them with a school place. One of the visions for our ghetto ministry is to enable even more children to attend school.

Out of this program we have resettled many children back to their relatives, we have supported a few to carry out small businesses, and others have been taken back to school. Thank you for your amazing support. This all wasn’t possible without your help.

ABOUT THE GHETTO PROGRAM

Organize a weekly ghetto program in Kivulu for around 200 children from the surrounding slum areas. We start the program with cleaning the area, playing with the children, preparing them food, and counseling them where needed.

Give the children a chance to wash their clothes, they can clean themselves there and we go further by giving them a haircut. A short haircut is precondition to attend school.

Provide a safe place which includes medical healthcare. We bandage small wounds and cuts. A lot of the street children also take the opportunity to rest at this place and get some sleep.

Visit children at home, they determine the degree of support these families need. We attempt to offer individual help or try to help them find suitable organizations.
